So it is finally summer, Hooray!! Now that means either moving back home or to a new apartment off campus. Moving may seem stressful and overwhelming, but staying organized is key. Moving isn’t at all bad. This is a great time to get rid of things you don’t use and really clean out your apartment or dorm. Take a look at these tips to make sure your moving experience is a positive one!
Clean. A key to making your move a successful one is to deep clean your dorm. This will help you decide to throw away certain things and make it easier to see what items you need to pack.
Make a plan. Figure out which parts of your room or rooms you want to tackle first. This will make it easier on you, and you won’t have to feel overwhelmed. By doing this, you have a set procedure and it will be easier to stay organized and label your boxes.
Purge. As you start going through everything, throw away items you don’t need or donate clothes and other items to charity. If you have a bunch of textbooks from the past school year, you can try to sell them back, return them to the university, or donate them.
Label boxes. Labeling boxes will make your move 10 times easier. Label them by room at your new place or label them based on the items in the box. Because it can become easily confusing when all the boxes look the same, this will help you remember what is what.
Keep your clothes on a hanger. This is by far the best trick. Keep your clothes on a hanger and put a trash bag over them. Place the drawstring at the top, around the handle part of the hanger. This makes it easy to transport your clothes, and you can easily put them on the rack at your new place without even wrinkling all your clothes! Think about how much time you will save by not having to put your clothes back on the hangers.
The final clean. After everything has been packed and taken out of your dorm, do one last cleaning of the dorm. Do last minute dusting, vacuuming, and wiping down, and making sure you are following the protocol your university gives you for moving out.
Good luck packing! Enjoy the rest of your summer!
